| What a great book! After having read The Chemical Garden trilogy by Lauren Destefano I wanted something similar but couldn't quite find anything that was as good. This is! It was an amazing read, I don't quite remember a time when I was so into a book. This book sort of reminded me of a tamer Hunger Games. In this dystopian, a girl from every province gets chosen to be in a competition where the prize is to marry the prince and become the princess. Honestly I do not really like girly books, but this one was just dystopian enough to be acceptable, and it was amazing! In this book, the society is divided by castes where Ones are better (or richer) and Eights are the worst. People from different castes have different ways of earning money. America, the main character of the book, is a Five but is in a secret relationship with Aspen, a Six. It is not impossible for a girl to marry a lower caste, but it is not encouraged. This is why Aspen convinces America to enter the contest - the Selection. She is surprised when she is chosen since she thinks of herself as regular. It made me think of Hunger Games because it's a sort of competition and it is televised to entertain people. It also made me think of The Chemical Garden trilogy because the main character is so normal and then she is sent to become a princess - similar to Rhine who was sent to become a bride. What I like the most about this book is that (mostly) everyone is honest with each other. From the beginning, America told Maxon (the prince) that she was in love with someone else and that she didn't think she could love him. They agreed to be friends and he agreed to keep her there for her convenience. But turns out there's something more there. I gotta say, I'm usually always for the first love, the one the main character seems more in love with, but in this case I think I actually like Maxon better. He is an awesome prince and he isn't at all stuck up and I think he likes America for who she is. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next! The second book, The Elite, is already out and the final book, The Ones, comes out in May of this year. I absolutely recommend these books. ![]() ![]() If anybody wants to follow me on Goodreads here's a link to my profile! :) |

You're pretty good at selling these books. I got kind of tired of the sub-par distopian books (matched, maze runner) so took a break. But maybe I'll try out your suggestions!
